Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is this therapy, or a replacement for therapy?
No. TWOC provides non-clinical support, including coaching, psychoeducation, and skill-building. We do not provide therapy, diagnosis, or treatment of mental health conditions, and working together does not establish a clinical or therapeutic relationship. Services are not a substitute for therapy. They may complement clinical care, or be used as standalone non-clinical support, depending on your needs and whether this type of support is appropriate.
What does “non-clinical” mean?
Non-clinical support focuses on education, skill-building, and relational support. It does not include diagnosing or treating mental health conditions, providing therapy, or offering medical or clinical interventions. TWOC works with youth, families, and individuals seeking support with things like emotional literacy, communication, boundaries, identity exploration, and navigating systems.
If you’re unsure whether this is the right fit, we’re happy to talk it through.
Who is this for?
TWOC works with youth ages 5–24, as well as the adults and systems that support them; this includes families, caregivers, foster and adoptive parents, kinship placements, educators, school staff, and organizations that serve children and youth.
For youth under 18, a parent or legal guardian must provide consent before services begin. TWOC may also require appropriate guardian involvement based on the service and situation.
How do I know if this is a good fit? What happens if it isn’t?
If you’re looking for practical support, skill-building, or a space to navigate challenges without a clinical framework, this may be a good fit. If you’re unsure, we recommend starting with a conversation so we can explore your needs together and determine whether this type of support is appropriate.
If your needs are outside our scope, we may recommend a different level of care or refer you to other resources. When possible, we will help connect you with support that better fits your needs. TWOC reserves the right to determine whether services are appropriate and may decline or discontinue services if needed.
What kinds of services do you offer?
We offer support across three core areas: support, advocacy, and community. This can include coaching, tutoring, psychoeducation, system navigation, and peer or skill-based groups. The services listed on our website are examples, not a complete list. If you’re looking for something specific or not listed, we encourage you to reach out. We’re able to tailor support based on individual or community needs.
Do you work with parents or organizations?
Yes. In addition to working with youth, we offer support, psychoeducation, and consultation for parents, caregivers, and organizations that serve children and youth. Services can be tailored based on your specific needs.
What happens if I need more support than you can provide?
If your needs fall outside the scope of non-clinical support, we will talk through options and help connect you with appropriate licensed providers or services. Our goal is to make sure you receive the level of care that best supports you, even if that means connecting you with resources outside of TWOC.
Do you offer crisis support?
No. TWOC is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, please contact 911 or your local emergency services.
We can help connect you with crisis resources when needed. Different services operate under different policies, including whether they may initiate emergency intervention without your consent.
Some commonly used 24/7 resources include 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, Crisis Text Line, and The Trevor Project, which may involve emergency intervention in certain situations. Others, such as Trans Lifeline, THRIVE Lifeline, and Samaritans of New York, describe themselves as not engaging in involuntary intervention.
We encourage you to explore these options and choose what feels safest and most appropriate for you.
Do you accept insurance?
No. Insurance requires a clinical diagnosis and documentation of medical necessity, which places services within a medical model. TWOC is intentionally non-clinical and does not provide services that are eligible for insurance reimbursement. This allows us to offer flexible, relationship-centered support without labeling or restricting how support can look.
How does the sliding scale work?
We use a trust-based sliding scale to create multiple access points. You choose the rate that best reflects your current financial reality. There is no requirement to provide proof, we trust you to choose what is honest and sustainable for you. Higher tiers reflect the true cost of services and help make lower-cost options possible. A limited number of reduced-rate spots are available to ensure this model remains sustainable.
What if cost is a barrier?
We encourage you to reach out. We’re open to honest conversations about what feels sustainable, and may be able to offer sliding scale options or limited free spots when capacity allows. If we’re not able to accommodate your needs, we can help connect you with resources.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice, as well as no-shows, will be charged the full session fee. A 15-minute grace period is provided at the start of each session. After that, the session is considered a no-show. Rescheduled sessions are subject to availability and must occur within a reasonable timeframe. Late reschedule requests may incur a fee. Full policy details are provided prior to beginning services.
